I’m not sure what state you are homeschooling in, but here in Pennsylvania, the law requires us simply to make progress in the individual subjects.

With our kids, I don’t follow the state standards. I find that they are too narrow when compared to the important things I want to teach our kids (life skills, love of nature, faith-based values, etc.) In another sense, I think that they are too broad, meaning that they were written for large groups of children, not the individual educational needs of my child.
If I were you, I would think about what is important to YOU for your child to know and start there. As far as the law, your evaluator should only be looking to see progress in the subject areas written in the law.

I have looked at the state standards for 1st grade and it seems like a lot! I just don’t want to be evaluated and find I didn’t do everything needed for 1st grade to be completed you know?
